April 28, 2016 - MEMXPRO Inc. introduces a series of SLC and StrongMLC SATA III 6 Gb/s SSD flash storage products. The product family includes: 2.5” SSD, 2.5” SSD Lite, M.2 SATA, mSATA, Mini mSATA and Half Slim. Using the current 2Xnm production process, SLC flash has 20 times more endurance than MLC flash and is an ideal choice for heavyweight intensive read/write applications. As the price per gigabyte of SLC is about 4 times more than MLC flash, MEMXPRO provides a StrongMLC solution that enables high-quality MLC flash to perform in SLC mode for better performance, reliability and endurance than standard MLC flash memory—yet without the high price of an SLC.

SLC flash uses a single cell to store one bit of data and is rated at 60,000 program/erase cycles. MLC flash is more complex with four digital states in a single cell. This makes it denser for a specified area and cheaper to produce, but it wears out faster. The primary consideration of implementation determines which technology to use. Empowered by MEMXPRO firmware technology, the StrongMLC solution positions itself between SLC and MLC types to create endurance, performance and price balance for a multitude of applications in industrial markets and embedded systems. StrongMLC has higher program/erase cycles of 20,000 times and its read/write performance is comparable with those of SLC.
